Aivo Oskis: Sometimes It Takes a Few Tries to Find the Sound That Feels Right at Home

Aivo Oskis first captured the spotlight in 2017 by participating in the popular show X-Factor. Before that, he spent nine years in London, where he studied and was part of the band Silver Dime, performing at various festivals and corporate events. Some may also recognize Aivo from the European Hit Radio YouTube series Finish the Song. He is known for singles like "Krūze," "Suvenīrs," "Pašiem nemanot," and others that have gained popularity on Latvian radio. Aivo has collaborated with several well-known Latvian artists, including Sabīne Berezina, Rassell, Katō, Būū, Oskars Deigelis and others.

In this interview, we explore Aivo's upcoming music plans and reveal some insights he hasn't shared before, plus find out what events truly get him grooving!

Congratulations on releasing your latest track "Klusā balss" featuring Sabīne Berezina! How did this fantastic collaboration come about?

We've worked together on various projects in the past, including cover programs and collaborations with rapper Rassell. As a trio, we’ve released a few singles, but this is our first duet. I've always admired Sabīne's incredible voice, so this collaboration was something I really wanted to pursue.

What's the story behind the lyrics of this single?

The lyrics center on the concept of two inner voices within us. One voice encourages personal growth, self-improvement, and self-love, while the other brings forth harsh criticisms and doubts. The song urges listeners to take control of their lives by acknowledging the negative voice, emphasizing self-awareness, resilience, and maintaining positivity despite internal struggles.

What can fans expect from your upcoming music? Any hints or surprises?

I’m incredibly excited about the new music I’ve been creating. It’s been a thrilling journey exploring different genres and experimenting with fresh sounds. I can’t wait to share this music with everyone! Be sure to follow my social media for the latest updates on when and where you can hear it first. Stay tuned!

You've performed at various events.  What type of events do you enjoy the most, and why?

Every performance has its own charm, but I particularly enjoy intimate settings where I can connect deeply with the audience. Experiencing their reactions up close creates a unique exchange of energy. I also love smaller concerts, as they feel like watching a friend perform. Larger shows and festivals have their own excitement, too. One memorable festival for me was last year’s Open’er Festival in Poland; it was well-organized with an awesome lineup.

Can you describe the types of events you usually attend?

I love attending live music events, from intimate concerts to larger shows. I also enjoy sports events, especially when Latvia is competing.

What inspired you to start making music?

Music has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I sang in a boys' choir as a child, and my sister and I won the grand prix in a song competition. That was when I realized how much I loved performing. As I explored music further, I discovered its unique power to connect people and evoke emotions, inspiring me to pursue music as a career.

Who are your biggest musical influences?

I’ve found inspiration in many artists throughout my journey. Craig David, Usher, and Jamie Cullum have influenced my storytelling and melody creation, while Jessie J has taught me about blending genres and pushing creative boundaries. Each artist has helped shape my unique sound, and I continue to find inspiration in new artists and genres.

Who’s on repeat in your Spotify playlist right now? Any must-hear tracks?

I’m currently discovering the hottest tracks on TikTok! Here are three bangers you need to check out: “Somebody to Someone” by Natalie Jane, “Situations” by Nicolina, and “People Pleaser” by Cat Burns. Also, don’t miss Kristīne Prauliņa and The Soulful Crew’s latest jam, “Jā, bet!” It’s one of my favorites—trust me, you’ll love it!

Lastly, what advice would you give to aspiring musicians?

Stay true to yourself and your artistic vision. Don’t be afraid to experiment; sometimes it takes a few tries to find the sound that feels right at home. Authenticity sets you apart in this competitive industry. Surround yourself with supportive people who believe in your talent. Most importantly, never stop learning—whether it’s refining your skills or exploring new ideas. Enjoy the journey, and trust that hard work and dedication will pay off.
