The idea to form the band came to Armands Leimanis and Jānis Krūmiņš in the autumn of 2000 while smoking a contemplative pipe near the old Smiltene department store. Krūmiņš made the proposal, Leimanis agreed, there were no witnesses, and the men sealed their intent with a handshake... The initial lineup was gathered to record a few of Jānis Krūmiņš's songs.
"A small clarification right away... The emergence of the band 'Apvedceļš' and its appearance on the Latvian music scene was never in any way connected with the Smiltene bands 'Kaimiņi' and 'Sestā jūdze.' Any similarities with our Smiltene colleagues are purely coincidental and not deliberately cultivated. The band 'Apvedceļš' is, was, and will remain an independent, musically creative project," the musicians state.
At that time, the band consisted of Armands Leimanis, Andis Mincis, Jānis Krūmiņš, Inese Austruma, and Aigars Nords, and by the end of 2001, with the support of the music label "Gailītis G," their first album Sievietēm Jaukām was released, featuring 14 songs.
The current members of the band are: Jānis Krūmiņš (vocals, acoustic guitar), Armands Leimanis (bass), Edžus Podnieks (lead guitar), Raimonds Baltiņš (keyboards), and Artis Avotiņš (percussion).
