Ella Releases Patriotic Song and Video Inspired by Imants Kalniņš “Piena Ceļš”

Latvian singer Ella (Elīna Fūrmane) has released a new song and music video that incorporates motifs from Imants Kalniņš’s iconic composition Piena Ceļš, thus naming her single “Piena Ceļš.” This song is a personal tribute from Ella to Latvia during its month of celebration, reflecting a love for her homeland that has only grown deeper and more meaningful after years of living in America.

Ella shares that living in America has given her a new perspective on Latvia. Every summer, she returns to Latvia, and during one of her recent visits, she decided to start making music again—this time in Latvian. “I am Latvian, and it’s time for me to embrace my roots, no matter where in the world I am,” says Ella. The artist is currently working on an EP of Latvian songs, planned for release in the fall.

At the end of the song, Ella includes a legendary speech by former president Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga: “We are strong! We are resilient!” Ella emphasizes that these words remind her of her childhood, when she was inspired by Vīķe-Freiberga’s ability to move and unite the people as a young girl.

The music video features scenes from Riga, where Ella was born and raised, as well as the Latvian countryside and coast, which bring back childhood memories. The video includes symbolic images of candle lighting by the Presidential Palace and a torch-lit march. The video also features special drone footage by Latvian videographer Ingus Krūklītis.

“Filming the drone shots in Riga and other beautiful parts of Latvia for Elīna Fūrmane’s new music video was truly exciting. It’s a great honor that Elīna chose my footage for her video. I hope the shots add to the atmosphere and create a deeper connection between the music and the beauty of Latvia,” Krūklītis shares.
