Vocalist Marija Valmiera on the new double album: “Lejas II and Lejas III represent the closing of a creative chapter for us. Together with Lejas I, these recordings compile songs we’ve written since the band’s beginnings. By closing this cycle, we create space for new creative energy.”
The albums were recorded in 2024 and 2025 at Redroom Studio in Riga. Edvards Broders handled recording, mixing, and production, while Alberts Levics was responsible for mastering.

Alongside the double-EP release, Kalnejas announces a summer mini-tour across Latvia. The first concert will take place on July 17 in Mazsalaca as a trio solo performance, while on July 31 in Cēsis and August 5 in Riga, the band will be joined by the Swiss folk quartet Rowan. This collaboration offers a musical experience where Latvian and Western European folk traditions meet.
Kalnejas has previously made their mark at various Latvian festivals and music projects. In 2022, their song “Raganiņa” was included in the compilation Sviests 9 (Lauska), and the songs “Pie Dieviņa gari galdi” and “Uz ūdeņa” from Lejas Iwere featured in the international compilation Native Music 17, which was presented at the world music forum WOMEXin 2022.
