Talsi White Choir, Directed by Markus Riva, Triumphs in "Koru Kari"

On Sunday evening, at the close of the Freedom Festival, the show Koru Kari ended with an emotionally charged and musically vibrant final. Two strong choirs competed for the victory – the Riga Amber Choir and the Talsi White Choir. In the end, the main prize of 10,000 euros was awarded to the Talsi White Choir, led by Markus Riva. The choir will donate the winnings to the Children and Family Support Center Brīnumiņš.

In the final, each choir performed one new and one previously performed song. Their carefully crafted performances were evaluated by the usual panel of judges – conductor Jānis Ozols, TV and event host Jana Duļevska, and the rotating jury member, singer Atis Auzāns, who won the first season of Koru Kari with the Daugavpils Orange Choir.

For the final, the Talsi White Choir chose the emotionally powerful song Mātes karogs by Mirdza Zīvere. After the performance, jury member Jānis Ozols emphasized that the choir’s presence in the final was well deserved – they had worked hard, embraced feedback, strived for improvement, and impressed with their musical variety. In their second performance, the choir surprised the audience with a rendition of the song Nārnija by the group Olas, where their choir master and choreographer joined them on stage.

Earlier-eliminated choirs also returned to the stage last night, delighting the audience with a medley of their previously performed songs and joining the finalists for a heartfelt closing performance.
