MARTA Releases the Mini Album “Wrong Woman”

Last fall, singer and songwriter MARTA made her debut with her first song in English. After a year of work and the release of several singles, today marks the release of her six-song mini album “Wrong Woman.”

“This EP marks an important moment in my musical journey. Experimenting with English was a risky decision and a leap into the unknown, but I’m pleased with the new creative horizons it has opened for me, the musicians I’ve had the chance to collaborate with, and the new listeners I’ve managed to reach,” Marta says about the album.

“Theme-wise, these six songs are like a rollercoaster and just as emotionally volatile as I am – from wild dancing to tears and back again. “Wrong Woman” tells the story of a woman who recognizes her strength and, despite moments of doubt (“I’ll Be Enough”), melancholy (“Local Supermarket”), and life’s injustices (“Losing Game”), continues to move forward.”

Marta was inspired to work on songs in English after participating in an international songwriting camp, where, together with Swedish musicians, she created material for Bulgarian star Mihaela Fileva’s album. One camp led to another, as well as participation in several foreign concerts and meeting new musical collaborators, giving her confidence that Latvian musicians are seen as equals beyond the country’s borders.

Marta is the author of all the songs on the mini album, which was created in collaboration with like-minded people in Latvia, Estonia, and the UK. The main creative force and support behind the mini album is British producer Christopher Harris, who mixed five and produced four of the EP’s songs (“Wrong Woman,” “I’ll Be Enough,” “Glow Up Era,” and “Local Supermarket”). The song “Pretty Little Thing” was created at a songwriting camp in Estonia with Raul Ojama, Maria Kallasto, and Sofja-Liisa Liiv, while “Losing Game” was produced by Latvian producer Jānis Jačmenkins (JJ Lush), with whom Marta had previously collaborated successfully.

Marta’s new mini album will be performed at upcoming concerts: on September 13 at “Tipogrāfija” in Liepāja, September 19 at “Skapis” in Riga, and October 5 at “Zeit” in Līgatne.
