Reinis Jaunais Releases Album “Nest” and Invites You to a Concert at Ģertrūdes Street Theatre

This week, Reinis Jaunais released his new album, Nest, which the musician has been crafting for three years. Unlike last year’s Words, this album features instrumental compositions and vocal tracks without specific lyrics. The presentation concert for Nest will take place on January 11 at the Ģertrūdes Street Theatre.

The album includes contributions from several renowned Latvian instrumentalists: cellist Erna Daugaviete, drummer Andris Buiķis (known for his work with Very Cool People, Lupa, and others), double bassist Jānis Rubiks (a member of Trio Elpo and various jazz projects), trumpeter Harijs Ločmelis (Aston Kais, among others), and electronic music producer EIII, who released his debut album earlier this year.

Reinis Jaunais performs using Latvian-made instruments, including guitar, kokle, zvangu, and the modular “Erica Synths Pico System III” synthesizer. The album’s sound processing was handled by Kaspars Bārbals (studio Lauska, group Auļi), while the visual concept was created by artist Lote Vilma. Nest is available on major music streaming platforms like Spotify and Tidal. It is also offered in vinyl and supports immersive Dolby Atmos technology.

“With this album, I’ve returned to translating my travel experiences into sound,” says Reinis Jaunais. “I look forward to meeting listeners at concerts to share stories from my journeys. This album was created with a brilliant group of musicians, and I’ve learned so much from each of them. I’m excited for us to finally perform together on stage.”

At the presentation concert, Reinis Jaunais will perform alongside Andris Buiķis, Jānis Rubiks, Erna Daugaviete, Harijs Ločmelis, and kokle player Zane Sniķere. The event will feature video projections by Laima Jaunā, inspired by illustrations by Lote Vilma. The concert is scheduled for January 11 at the Ģertrūdes Street Theatre in Riga.

Alongside the album release, a video for the track Virsotnēs has been published. This abstract animation offers a glimpse of the visuals expected during the concert. Created by Laima Jaunā, the video includes 2,772 hand-drawn frames and embodies modern minimalist art elements. Laima has also produced three previous music videos for the album’s songs.

Reinis Jaunais is often called one of the most frequently touring Latvian musicians abroad. This year alone, he has performed 96 concerts outside Latvia, ranging from the Benelux countries to the Balkans, representing Latvia at events such as the NORDEN festival in Germany, Maastricht University’s PAS festival in the Netherlands, the BUNA contemporary arts festival in Bulgaria, and the Alles Gute festival in Austria. Over the years, he has performed in most European countries, as well as in Australia, New Zealand, and Turkey. His previous albums include the widely recognized Zeme, featuring collaborations with musicians from Latvia and beyond.

The album Nest was supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation (VKKF) and AKKA/LAA.
