November is a special month for Latvia – it marks important historical victories, and our country was born in this month, to whose founders we will be eternally grateful. Large-format posters with the slogan "My Latvia – My Responsibility," created by the National Armed Forces (NBS) and the National Guard, will be displayed on the streets of Riga, symbolizing the role and responsibility of each person in shaping our country. The Chairman of the Riga City Council, Vilnis Ķirsis, calls on everyone to feel love for Latvia during this holiday month.
Lāčplēša Day will traditionally begin with an ecumenical service at Riga Cathedral. From 12:00 to 12:30, a solemn change of the honor guard by the National Armed Forces (NBS) will take place at the Freedom Monument, with a special program featuring a performance by the NBS Headquarters Orchestra and a parade by the soldiers of the National Defense Service.
The memorial event at Sudrabkalniņš (at the intersection of Slokas Street and Kurzemes Avenue) will take place from 15:00 to 16:00, featuring performances by the NBS Headquarters Wind Ensemble, the Riga Cathedral Girls' Choir "Tiara," and the National Guard Student Infantry Battalion. The traditional torchlight procession at the Brothers’ Cemetery in Riga will begin at 16:00, ending at the Stone Bridge, where a fire raft will be launched. Everyone is invited to participate in the procession.
On the evening of Lāčplēša Day, at 19:00, several concerts will take place at cultural centers, such as "Shining Spears" at the Culture and Arts Center "Mazā ģilde" and the concert "Torch. In Memory of Defenders of the Homeland" at Riga Cathedral.
The central municipal event will be held at Victory Park on November 11th, starting at 18:30, with the raising of the national flag, speeches by several groups, including "Melo M," "Tautumeitas," and "Auļi." At the end of the event, there will be a live premiere of the project "Listen to the Souls’ Whirlwind." In the climax of the Lāčplēša Day concert, visitors will experience the first live performance of this project's song.
At 20:00, the youth choir "Balsis" invites everyone to a concert, performing the cantata "God, Your Land Burns!"
In November, on the 106th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Latvia, a solemn flower-laying ceremony will take place at the Freedom Monument at 10:30. One of the central events will be the National Armed Forces Parade, which will start at 13:30 on November 11th at the 11th November Embankment.
On the National Holiday, there will also be concerts, such as "Sound Paintings of Latvia" at the VEF Cultural Palace and the concert "Stay YOU in my Mind..." at the "Ave Sol" concert hall, featuring the Emil Dārziņš Mixed Choir and other artists.
Evening celebrations, starting at 19:00 at Freedom Square, will begin with a concert featuring Ginta Krievkalna, Grēta Grantiņa, and Andris Ērglis. This will be followed by a speech from the President of Latvia, Edgars Rinkēvičs, the playing of the Latvian national anthem, and a laser light show, which will be repeated until 23:00.
At 21:00, a festive concert "In Latvia's Blossoms" will be held at the "Mazā ģilde" cultural center, featuring the youth choir "Balsis" and pianist Ieva Dzērve.
This year, the light festival "Staro Rīga" also returns, offering a unique light atmosphere to celebrate Latvia's birthday from November 15th to 18th. This year's theme is "The Time of Light," which highlights the importance of light as a unifying force in society. The festival will take place along the route: Freedom Square – Latvian Riflemen's Square – National Library of Latvia – Arkādijas Park.
