“Dienas” reflects on the inevitable pain of first love and emotional attachment. The song also references the once-popular Latvian TV show “ZTV” and its host Ieva Tūna. In a way, it’s a love letter to that show and that time — when half-legally downloaded songs and hand-written CD covers made up the soundtrack of our lives. Perhaps it’s romanticizing too much, but it seems that this created a more personal relationship with music, the musicians note.
“When I was growing up, ZTV was really important to me, and I tried not to miss a single day — just to see the latest foreign music videos. Recently, in a thrift store in Limbaži, I found a CD of the Finnish band The Crash’s album ‘Wildlife’ for only 50 cents — their song ‘Lauren Caught My Eye’ used to be in heavy rotation on ZTV. Later, some friends said I looked like their singer. And over the years, I’ve occasionally caught myself wondering: what is Ieva Tūna doing now? Maybe it was a sign... I believe coincidences can be fate. That’s why, thanks to all these little alignments, ‘Dienas’ sounds the way it does,” says "Rīgas Modes" vocalist Kalvis Bormanis.
"Dienas" follows the previously released singles “Kalifornija”, “Mīla Uz Mūžu”, “Otrā Plāna Aktrise” and “Everybody Hurts”, which have already gained recognition in the local music scene, gradually setting the tone for the band's third studio album, due for release this autumn. The group has also released a 7-inch vinyl single, featuring a B-side cover of the song “Tavs Superveikals” by “Jauns Mēness”, which has topped local radio charts for several weeks.
