"Tas viss dzīvo mūsos" – A Contemporary Dance Performance by Children Exploring Bullying and Empathy

On May 18, the Small Hall of the Latvian Academy of Culture will host the contemporary dance performance "Tas viss dzīvo mūsos" (It All Lives Within Us) – an emotionally powerful and visually expressive story about bullying, empathy, and the choice to act with compassion, created and performed by children.

Through movement and music, the young performers offer a window into the experiences and emotions of their own generation, allowing every viewer to recognize themselves and reflect on issues that deeply affect society today. The performance is suitable for all audiences and invites collective reflection on what often remains unspoken within us.

Latvia consistently ranks high globally in school bullying statistics – every third student in Latvia has encountered bullying, mockery, or violence. The dance performance "Tas viss dzīvo mūsos" explores this issue by presenting both sides of the story, suggesting that each of us, depending on our circumstances, could have been either a victim or a perpetrator. Yet, it is within our power to choose how we respond.

This is a story of how conflict and separation can transform into understanding and unity, as the performers search for answers to questions like: how to accept others, how to protect the vulnerable, how to learn from our mistakes, and how to ask for forgiveness.
Dancers aged 10 to 15 express their perspective on this timely and universal topic through a blend of contemporary dance styles and theatrical elements. The performance features live original music by Tomass Ančs (cello), Marta Balode (piano), and Ernests Ervīns Dovgāns (drums).
