Tautumeitas release the album “Zem saules” and announce their solstice ritual concert

The Latvian ethno-pop group Tautumeitas presents their fifth studio album Zem saules, designed as a musical journey through the Latvian seasonal calendar. They also announce the Rītausmas Koncertrituāls – for the second year in a row, this special midsummer concert ritual will merge live music with summer solstice traditions, rooted in Latvian folklore, and take place overnight from June 20 to 21 at Aizkraukle Pilskalns.

The album Zem saules is dedicated to the solar and lunar calendar, nature's cycles, and the seasonal holidays that have held deep meaning for Latvians for centuries—both in everyday life and spirituality. The song Bur man laimi, featured on the album, will represent Latvia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Switzerland on May 15.

“The album is titled Zem saules (‘Under the Sun’) because we wanted to use our songs to show how special our homeland is – we are a northern people who experience all of nature’s changes, from harsh winters to warm summers. In the past, time was measured by the rhythms of nature, and the sun and moon acted as both clock and calendar,” explains group member Asnate Rancāne. “There are around 38 Latvian seasonal celebrations in our traditions, reflecting the flow of natural processes and, philosophically, the stages of a human life – this world and the next. We depend on the sun – it’s a source of life, a sacred symbol, and a power not to be underestimated,” adds Aurēlija Rancāne. “The songs on this album breathe in sync with nature – like a day that rises, peaks, and sets; like the sun that is born and fades in human emotion. We live in cycles, and this album is best enjoyed in order, allowing yourself to enter the rhythm that nature invites us into,” says group member Laura Līcīte.

The album release will be celebrated with the band on May 1 at 14:00 at KALVE Living Room (Krišjāņa Valdemāra Street 17A). Guests can enjoy top-quality coffee, wish Tautumeitas luck on their Eurovision journey, and be the first to taste the special Zem saules coffee created in collaboration with KALVE Coffee. Until now, this coffee was gifted exclusively to Tautumeitas’ Eurovision supporters, but starting May 1, it will be available to everyone.

Tautumeitas also confirm that the Rītausmas Koncertrituāls will once again combine live music with the rituals of the summer solstice, based on Latvian traditions. It will take place from the night of June 20 to 21 at Aizkraukle Pilskalns, surrounded by the Daugava River, beginning at 2:00 AM—before sunrise. As midsummer is the most energetically charged time of the year, visitors are encouraged to arrive early to settle into the atmosphere and prepare for this unique musical experience.

Tickets are available at Biļešu Paradīze box offices and here.

You can reach Aizkraukle Pilskalns by car or public transport, and from Riga the most convenient way is via special “Braucam kopā” group trips.
